What Does Medical Weight Loss Mean?

Maintaining a healthy weight is an important component of enjoying better health overall. However, it can be difficult to lose weight, especially if you wish to lose 20 pounds or more. Fortunately, professional assistance is available.

If you have a body mass index (BMI) over 30 and need to lose more than 20 pounds, you might benefit from a medically enhanced weight loss program for obesity treatment. At Mid-Cities Direct Care, Dr. James Terry oversees a medically enhanced weight loss program.

Medically Enhanced Weight Loss Program

The medically enhanced weight loss program at Mid-Cities Direct Care is based on the Obesity Medicine Association’s guidelines for obesity treatment. The program is not designed for patients wanting to lose less than 20 pounds. Candidates for the program must have a BMI over 30 and need to lose at least 20 pounds or more. Dr. Terry can determine if you are a candidate for the medically enhanced weight loss program.

The goal of the medically enhanced weight loss program is to help you safely achieve and maintain a healthy weight. Medical professionals work with you to help you lose excess weight and keep it off. The program includes an initial consultation and monthly follow-up weight management visits. Full details of the program are explained during the initial consultation, which also includes:

  • A medical exam
  • A risk/needs assessment
  • The first injection of vitamins B-12 and B-6
  • Exercise and nutrition counseling
  • Blood work
  • An EKG

Follow-Up Weight Management Visits

Monthly follow-up visits are intended to help you stay on track with your weight loss goals. Monthly visits include a review of your diet log and exercise journal to help you maintain a healthy lifestyle. Your weight will be taken, as well as your BMI and other measurements. Other aspects of the monthly follow-up visits include having your blood pressure checked and receiving additional optional injections of vitamin B-12 or B-6 if desired.
